What to Expect
What Will My Treatment Be Like?
I will do an initial physical exam and review your complete medical history. You may also have an osteopathic manipulative treatment. Among the approaches I use are Biodynamics, Sutherland Craniosacral, and Fulford percussion hammer (see Techniques for more information).
Manipulative treatment is non-invasive and facilitates normal function of veins, arteries, nerves, muscles, and bones. A doctor trained in osteopathic manipulative treatment is able to sense changes in body tissues and facilitate proper physiologic function. There will be no jerking or high velocity techniques used.
Who Can Benefit?
All ages and body systems:
Musculoskeletal • Circulatory • Neurological • Digestive Lymphatic • Respiratory • Immune
Ease symptoms related to pregnancy:
Back Pain • Insomnia • Edema
Techniques
The following are some of the osteopathic manipulation techniques used at Finding Wellness.
Biodynamics: This manipulation technique, similar to all of osteopathy, looks at the embryologic development of all human body tissues. For example connective tissue (cartilage, bone, blood, lymph), muscle, nervous, etc.
Treatment consists of perceiving these embryologic tissues and any disparities that are causing discomfort and dysfunction. This therapy was developed by James Jealous, D.O. who sadly passed away in 2021.
Cranial Manipulation: This form of treatment addresses the interrelationship of the nervous system, connective tissues, and the very important function of the cerebral spinal fluid movement thru all tissues of the body. The innate relationship of these tissues with mind, body, and spirit is addressed.
Fulford Percussion Instrument: This was developed by Dr. Robert Fulford and uses an instrument to treat dysfunctional tissues with a vibratory therapy. Like all of the above techniques it is a subtle treatment to facilitate healing of bodily dysfunction. This is very effective with babies, children and the elderly.
The founder of osteopathy Dr. A.T. Still was taught to be very in tune with nature after living with and learning from the Shawnee Indians in the late 1800’s. Those osteopaths that followed in his footsteps, such as the men above, never deviated from the premise that nature and the body are paramount in healing.
These and other treatments were developed by enlightened osteopathic physicians to benefit babies, children, adults, women (pregnant and post pregnancy), the elderly, and those suffering from physical and emotional traumas.
What Should I Bring?
Please bring the following information/items:
1) Any diagnostic studies you have had done. These would be lab results, radiology studies, specialist consults, and any surgical/procedural records.
2) All prescription medications and supplements you may be taking. Not a list, please bring the bottles.
What Should I Wear?
Dress comfortably. I ask that you leave your street shoes outside the exam room, so bring slippers with you if you would like. Please wear a mask if you have chosen to not take any Covid vaccines.
Pain Management
Osteopathic manipulation is very effective for treatment of pain, both acute and chronic. Please be aware I do not order narcotics. However, I do send patients to pain care specialists if that is needed.
Billing & Payment
Finding Wellness is in-network with United Healthcare PPO and Medicare.
Please note that Finding Wellness is not a primary care provider (PCP), but I will be happy to work with your PCP to coordinate your care.
